Andy Thompson

Andy Thompson lives and paints in East Devon, in the South West of England. His work in acrylics and mixed media is inspired by his surroundings where he sees abstract subjects all around him.

Artist statement:

As well as painting, I am a published poet, a writer of Haiku, a type of short form poetry originally from Japan, and a photographer, but underlying it all is the word; 'abstract'. My children say I see the world in a different way. I do! I see things within the beauty of the mundane and I write, and I photograph and I paint them.

With 4 children; I have only recently found the time and space in my life to put onto canvas the many paintings I had been carrying around in my head. My influences range from Kandinsky to Mondrian. From the contents of my head to my eldest son, Oliver. Oliver is an art teacher and I inherited his 'art studio', the shed at the end of our garden when he left home.

If I were to win the lottery, I wouldn't need to travel the world to paint as I have a world of paintings in my head! Obviously, the money would be nice!
