Jean-Humbert Savoldelli

Jean-Humbert Savoldelli is a French artist from Lamagdelaine, in France. Artist statement: I have been painting for over 20 years and started painting using hyper-realism and trompe-l'oeil effects. I studied at The School of Trompe l'Oeil which taught me discipline and a certain technique. Over time though, I felt that this limited my creative choices. I managed to free myself from these constraints by radically changing my way of painting on canvas. In 2013, acrylic, knife and abstract expressionism replaced oil, brush, and hyperrealism. Frustrated for so many years my creativity was now very productive. Instead of showing everything to the viewer, I now give them a support to daydream based on colour harmonies, perspectives, verticals and horizontals which occupy space without ever clogging it. I recently introduced a new element in the composition of some of my paintings - sand mixed with glue. Used sparingly, it brings a particular look in both effects and contrast. All of my works are protected by a high-quality varnish, and the edges are painted, usually in black, so the paintings are ready to hang.
