Sveva Altea

Sveva Altea, Contemporary Artist | Rome, Italy Artist statement: Since I was a child, I have felt the urge to draw and paint. When I went to study in London, I attended some life painting courses at Central Saint Martin School of Arts and Design, and this was the catalyst for me to become an artist. I then decided to study at Chelsea College of Arts and Design and at Guildhall University, where I graduated with a BA Hons degree in Fine Art. I started as a figurative painter, until a couple of years ago when I felt the urge to start painting abstract. This resulted in me creating a series of "cosmic paintings", dreams, stellar nights, universe and space, oneiric visions, as a journey into my subconscious. The artworks are a result of my imagination especially inspired by nature, astronomy and music, without restrictions, theories or limits. In fact, there are no rules l follow but l let my imagination guide me, like floating colours through an unknown universe. I don’t often use paint brushes as I like to paint with my hands, using different kinds of pigments, sand and resin, mixed with oils. For some of my compositions l use a lot of special pens, markers or my fingers to draw the lines. The lines often present in my works are reminiscent of an infinite and unknown space. I like to explore new materials and media, so l have been making a series of abstract sculptures about the moon. I could say l am a daydreamer who paints the infinite shade of the universe through my emotional subconsciousness. As Edward Hopper said "if l could say it in words there would be no reason to paint". Because the process of creation is like a vortex it is limiting for an artist to describe their work in words. I would like that the viewer feels free to interpret the artwork through their own imagination and through the emotions it provokes in them. 20% discount off all artwork for a limited period.
