Gina Plunder

Gina Plunder was born in Romania in 1964 and now lives and works as a visual artist in Rastatt, Germany. She graduated at the High-School for Graphic Design & Art Freiburg. Gina is a member of BBK - Federal German Artists Association, IAA - International Association of Art, GEDOK - German and Austrian Female Artists Association, and an art teacher. Artist statement: With my work, I want to take the viewer into another world full of light and colours. My aim is to create an imaginary world like fantasy places, visionary architecture or situations. However, I take a real situation as a starting point to create the new, imaginary world from it. Escapism, women and architecture are the topics in my work. Reflections are very important for me, as well as to create a three-dimensional effect that seems to draw the viewer inside. I always try to capture the light in my works and break it into a “thousand" colours, like through a prism. I’m using countless layers with acrylic and spray paint on canvas to create the crystalline like reflections in my paintings, and sometimes I’m using reflecting materials like acrylic glass and mirror foils. It takes time to let my paintings “grow”. My inspiration comes from ancient art, mythology, travelling around the world and getting to know and experience different cultures. Generally, my work involves aspects of painting and drawing, abstraction, figuration and geometry, between illusion and reality, involving 2 and 3 dimensional concepts. Gina Plunder, August 2021
