Yvonne Barlow

Yvonne Barlow, born in London, UK (1924 – 2017) Yvonne Barlow studied in London at the Central School of Art and worked as a professional artist all her life. She worked in oil and acrylic in her studio, but took most of her inspiration from the countryside. She always carried a sketchbook with her and would do pen-and-ink sketches and watercolours out in the field. She had a number of solo exhibitions in London, Oxford and Cambridge, group exhibitions in UK and France, and a joint exhibition in Lisbon with John Berger, the distinguished art critic. Her works are on public display in the Cambridge University Library, Newnham and Churchill Colleges, Rugby Art Gallery and Brancepeth Castle. Yvonne was born in London and studied at Central School of Art, Chelsea School of Art and London University. After leaving University she worked with Mass Observation; a social research organisation which gathered data on everyday life in Britain. She was part of a group of artists, writers, doctors, musicians and eccentrics who lived and worked in Bloomsbury. The diverse talents included Colin Davis, John Berger, Fritz Spiegel and Quentin Crisp. "We are very pleased to be able to offer her work for sale to a wide audience through the Tyrrell Art Gallery".
